Winter Special 6 Pack
Here are 6 wines that I think will be great additions to your cellar.
The first is Chehalem Inox Chardonnay 2019. This is one of my favorite Chardonnays. It is 100% stainless steel fermented and aged. It is really soft and elegant with aromatics of white flowers, honeysuckle, and lychee. This wine really emphasizes the tropical flavor of the Chardonnay grape with a really nice citrus finish.
The second wine in this collection is J. Christopher Pinot Noir Basalte 2016. The Basalte Pinot Noir is a 90+ rated Pinot Noir from vineyards in the Chehalem Mountains. It has a unusually full nose and silky mouth feel, not common to Willamette Valley Pinots. This Pinot has a nice minerality that works really well with smoked or baked salmon. My wife and I really enjoy it with smoked oysters.
Wine number three is one of the best hidden secrets in Oregon. RoxyAnn Winery Claret 2017 is by far my favorite red blend produced in Oregon. This wine is a Bordeaux blend with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. This wine has soft polished tannins. When you roll this wine on your palate you really get the bright flavors of ripe cherry, blackberry pie filling, mocha, chocolate-raspberry truffle and sweet toasty oak. The finish has a very nice pepper and leather feel as it goes down. I don’t think you will find a nicer blend anywhere in Oregon.
Our forth offering is Nautilus Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2019. Sauvignon Blanc is our favorite sit on the deck anytime wine, and Nautilus is one of the best. The passionfruit and melon come right at you in the nose and continue through every sip. the flavors surround your tongue with a really nice acid that explodes in your mouth. The other way we like sauvignon blanc is with Salmon or any oily fish. You know when you have a rich delicious piece of salmon, that first bite is so unctuous. Then the second bite is also great but not quite the same. Take a sip of sauvignon blanc to refresh your palate. This will allow that third bite to be as good as the first. Sauvignon Blanc, and especially Nautilus Sauvignon Blanc, combined with rich savory foods is a marriage blessed by Bacchus, the god of wine.
Our fifth wine is Vietti Barbera d’Asti Tre Vigne 2019. This Barbera is a deep ruby purple with a big red cherry and spice aroma. The wine itself is medium bodied, not a overly big wine that will overpower food. the nicest part of this wine is it’s long finish with subtle red cherries all the way through to the back of the throat. If big Chianti’s are not your thing, this smooth Barbera will definitely fit the bill. Try it with salad, gilled vegies, pasta, pork or any foods with rich light sauces.
And finally one of my favorite reds of all time is the Seghesio Family Zinfandel Sonoma County 2018. Every time I am in the Napa/Sonoma area a must stop for me is the Seghesio Family winery in Sonoma. I absolutely love their Zinfandels. They make multiple Zin’s, but my favorite go-to is their Sonoma County. It is reasonably priced and is always scored in the 90’s by Wine Spectator. The nose is bold with cedar, spice and blackberry notes. It is really bold and rich on the palate with raspberry and spicy flavors throughout. Looking for that every night pizza wine, or a wine great with barbeque, this is the one!
